Medieval II Total War Turkish Chronicles 29 Counter Attack on Kiev

(the video has wrong title, so don't panic...)

This is the counter Attack of the Mongols on Kiev. It was a hard battle since the enemies were 2 level of gold in experience. As you can see in the very long video, they fought to the last. The strategy I used was the same very effective one as before but this I had, cannon, I very much dislike cannons since they are not as effective in urban warfare as the catapult are.

Anyway Enjoy!

If that first bunch of cavalry hadn't taken out your cannons, I think you would have found them very useful. They fire on a much lower trajectory than a catapult, so instead of arcing over the enemy, they tear right through. If you could have somehow protected those cannons, you would have seen their full potential.

yeah probably. But what is interesting by leaving them more of less protected is that they attract the enemy, and by doing so reduce the charge, allowing infantry to be more effective against cavalry.

Hmm. I hadn't thought of that. So in a way, they are just as useful as catapults, they just kill Mongols by luring them in, instead of straight up shooting them.

yeah, the thing is that when they charge the cannon they are stop by the cannon and that "broke" the charge of the enemy, since the cannon crew slowly retreat, they bring the enemy to the infantry line, and then the infantry is more effective against the slowly advancing enemy that is also less organize and reach the infantry line less at the time.

Well what can I say,I'm not suprised by the shittyness of bombards?

Anything worse than a basilisk, will never hit the enemy (except a catapult).

But actually ribaults tend to usually hit the enemy. But they never kill any tough troops, so you must use rocket launchers or monster ribaults. Those are some mean infantry-killing-machines...

Attila, you should always have some janissary archers inside besieged cities. They can put those nasty stakes into the ground, so that enemy cavalry is massacred.

So deploy some janissary stakes in front of your cannons, and put some saracen militia unit there too, just in case the enemy infantry also tries to charge.

It doesn't matter if some cannonballs hit your frontline, they're replacable anyways :D

Also you could put some stakes just before your gate, think about the rotting mongol horse carcasses at the doors :D

yeah i would probably use some janissary if i could produce them in that region. =)

But anyway mongols are about to die soon (if all goes well).

They have 3 city left, there is 1 or 2 family member left alive, mongols army are nearly all dead at the turn 115, etc.

Attila you should really try the hungarians, I think they're a great faction, despite no being so popular.
They get a balanced and good troop roster: Chivalrics, royal banderum, croat axemen, hungarian noble horsearchers(they are teh pwnage :D),
pavise spearmen, pavise crossbowmilitia, battlefield assassins...

hmm maybe, but i think when i will be done with those mongols i will take a break.

great battle and i find that if you put the cannons on the flanks of your army they would have been well protected and still be able to slauther the mongoles
